Only every twentieth nursing homes have pets

There are too few happy wriggling dog tails and spin Funds cats on the region's nursing homes and elderly centers. Although total foreign research indicates pets in nursing homes creates happy and more healthy elderly, there is only one pet in every twenty homes. It assesses earlier case against DR Zealand. At Borup care center at Ringsted has had cat - and will soon have a new one. In addition, invite Mon happy and like virtually all birds passing at the nursing home, later went a little pony around the corridors to greet the residents.
Team Leader at Borup care center Dorthe Rud Frederiksen says it is a very deliberate strategy.
- I have a happy staff, some happy residents and a much more positive mood. Especially when we have visits from dogs, I can see residents without so much language that suddenly begins talking to the dog, says Dorthe Rud Frederiksen.
Associate professor at Aalborg University of Mary-Ann Knudsen says that foreign research suggests that animals in care centers helps to break everyday, fight boredom, loneliness and it gives the elderly the chance to show care.
